G9 is the identity of director and designer Bill Groshelle. Originally a commercial production company, today G9 offers Groshelle’s services as a creative director and director.
Groshelle began his career as a director for Colossal Pictures in San Francisco. At Colossal, Groshelle pioneered the “blendo” technique of combining live action, graphics and animation into a seamless image.
Groshelle’s work ranges from commercials for Young & Rubicam, Chiat/Day, and McCann-Erickson to special effects on features such as Top Gun. Groshelle also designed and directed many of the original MTV ID’s that created the unique identity of that network.
More recently, Groshelle has concentrated on creating videos and installations directly for corporations, including Apple, Google, Sony, and Intel. In spots, Groshelle’s work for Toshiba and Coca-Cola combined live-action, graphics, and animation.
Groshelle’s work has earned many industry honors, including an Emmy and Broadcast Design Association awards for his MTV work. He has also been a Clio finalist, and received multiple Addy, Telly, One Show, and Monitor awards.
Groshelle's film, Trapunto, was recently shown at New York's MOMA as part of a retrospective of Cal Arts films. The film was also shown at Centre Pompidou in Paris.
